When the Sony Bravia “Balls” ad came out a few years ago, I watched the making-of videos with wonder and a little bit of jealousy. I asked myself, how do you get the really fun projects like that? How many people get to imagine what it would look like to drop a gazillion bouncy balls down the streets of San Francisco, and then get to actually do it? That project became my Jerusalem star – maybe I’d never get there, but it was inspiration to stretch the bounds of creativity and do things that were totally different.
Well, Fallon hasn’t stopped with the fun since then. Continuing to promote Sony Bravia with “Color like no other,” they created paint fireworks in Glasgow and play-doh bunnies frolicking in New York. While these ads lack the simplicity that made “Balls” so delicious, they still are amazing examples of how advertising can be totally innovative and incredibly fun – both to watch and to make. So in honor of Friday, here are the ads and their “making of” videos, which I like even better. At least it explains the clown, sort of…

250,000 multi-colored bouncy balls / 23 cameramen / 2 days in San Francisco

70,000 litres of paint / 1,700 detonators / 455 mortars / 622 bottle bombs / 200 people

2.5 tons of plasticine / 40 animators / 100,000 still images / 200 bunnies / 3 weeks in downtown New York
