In some cases it's not just stupid advertising but a
combination of more. Consider for instance advertising
for financial products (in the extreme case some Madoff-
related investment) and the role of the experts / pundits.
A famous video with Peter Schiff and a number of other
pundits shows them a while back ago. Most in that video
are clearly the worst pundits who made it on to TV.
The viewer instantly knows in that case how things really
worked out. That was the financial media hype in the
previous past:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2I0QN-FYkpw

It should be noted that the media are increasingly in
trouble, declining ad revenue / viewers.
Searchwords if interested to follow that up, using Google
and then clicking NEWS to the suggested searchwords:
"newspaper revenue"
"media revenue" etc., and similar to that effect.
No reason to lose hope, fall into a depression.

I was told by an advertising executive that the logo is meant to replicate a smile (not a smirk). I think the overall concept is good and modern, and no matter which logo you see you are going to know it is pepsi's logo. Therefore the idea that them being different doesn't work isn't really an argument.

I always wonder about this type of creative criticism when I can identify trends, fads or easy solutions. And another part of my brain will always assert that it's best to stop complaining about art and start making the results you would rather see. ANother way of putting it, of course without any aggressive intention, is, put your money where your mouth is. :)

Great SOH. I wonder... If we put this committee in charge of the economy, would they do better than our current politicians? I bet they would. I have a Christmas story posted and its a hoot. Visit me at www.SandySays1.wordpress.com

There's a lot of humor to be had in the advertising/graphic design/typography cohort. My wife and I are both in the business and are laughing at garbage all the time -- keeps us sane

Yep, I did realize that. My point was that the company seems a bit stuck on that concept. But maybe I'm just a bit jealous... I'd love to have a chance to play with the stuff they get to do. Thanks for the comment.

You do realize that this, like the Bravia commercials, are by the same company. I definitely concede your point on biting someone else's idea, but in this case I think it's more of a connection of the Sony camera commercials to the Bravia commercials. That and I really liked it. I think it works in this case. Thanks for showing me this.
